Numeracy Strategies for Middle & High School Students

As secondary math teachers, we're often frustrated by the lack of true number sense in our students. Solid research at the elementary level shows how to help all students become mathematically proficient by redefining what it means to compute with numbers. In this professional learning opportunity, teachers will learn to apply these strategies in a relevant way for secondary students through the vehicle of problem strings and mathematical models.

Deeper and Student Centered Learning

In an early college environment, student centered learning encourages students to become independent learners in the classroom and beyond. In addition, student centered learning increases rigor and college readiness skills. This session will provide the perspectives from an administrator, teacher, instructional coach and student(s) on the effectiveness and value of student centered learning.

In early college environments, it is essential that each student has the pre-requisite skill and knowledge to access college level coursework.  This session will describe the implementation of student mastery systems to accelerate student learning for early college environments.
