Implementing Middle and Early College Practices in Traditional High Schools

Many of the successful practices of middle and early college high schools can be implemented in traditional high schools. This allows these schools to broaden the base of students who have access to collegiate academic experiences - especially dual enrollment courses - and allows them to build the skills and confidence needed to be successful college students. These approaches have been shown to have extra value for student groups usually under-represented in college.

GATEWAY TO COLLEGE STUDENT TECHNOLOGY SURVEY: FINAL REPORT

Gateway to College National Network’s (GtCNN) enables colleges, school districts, and states to build sustainable pathways for disconnected youth to earn a high school diploma and meaningful postsecondary credential. GtCNN began in 2000 as a single program partnership between Portland Public Schools and Portland Community College (PCC) as a local strategy to reengage students who had dropped out (or who had fallen so far behind that they were going to drop out) of high school.

Back on Track: Pathways Through Postsecondary. Key Elements and Operational Features

Back on Track Through College model for designing or enhancing diploma-granting and GED programs, as well as redesigned first-year postsecondary programs for those who already have a GED or diploma but lack the skills to succeed. The Back on Track model articulates three program phases and accompanying features that help young people achieve their postsecondary and career ambitions.
